Pick up the full Castlevania Netflix series on Blu-ray this week
During retailers’ big spring sale, Castlevania fans can get all four seasons of the original Netflix animation series on Amazon for about $40. A box set that includes Season 1 and Season 2 is discounted to $18.77, while Season 3 and Season 4 snap-ups are about $20 per person. All three Blu-rays are eligible for Amazon’s B2G1 free promotion. Simply add them to the cart and you will get an extra discount at checkout, equaling the cost of Season 1.
Castlevania: Nocturne Season 1 is not included in Amazon’s promotions, but you can still save its $40 listing price of $15.
Netflix’s Castlevania Animated Series Blu-ray
It’s unclear whether Nocturne Season 2, which aired on Netflix in January, will get a physical release, but considering all other seasons in Castlevania, it seems possible.
Fans of the show also want to check out the Art of Castlevania: Animated Series, a nearly 200-page book detailing the show’s original four-season running development.
In case you missed it on the first airing, the original Castlevania series was the vampire hunter Trevor Belmont, the mighty witch Sypha and Alucard who participated in Dracula and his army of demons. The second half of the show focuses on a vampire covenant hoping to create its own undead kingdom, and the dirty grim Reaper himself (which is probably just the best character Malcolm McDowell has ever produced).
As you would expect, the show is violent, with the animation’s action scenes and jokes more noticeable than the razor blade than in some quieter scenes. The Blu-ray version comes with behind-the-scenes videos, voice actor interviews, storyboards, art galleries and other special features.
Hundreds of years after the original Castlevania series, Nocturne Season 1 follows Richter Belmont and draws inspiration from 1993’s PC-engine game Rondo’s Blood, some fans may know better by other names. The bloody Rondo was unique to Japan when it was launched. Konami brings the story to Super Nintendo in North America as Castlevania: Dracula X. Nocturne Season 2 answers many of the remaining questions from Season 1 while opening the door in Season 3.
Netflix has not renewed Castlevania: Season 3’s Nocturne. There is also a chance to not continue the story of nocturne, but start a new Castlevania Arc. The Castlevania animated series has been a highlight of the series in recent years, so hopefully it will continue in some way.
Speaking of Netflix’s video game animation adaptation, Arcane Season 1 was released on 4K and Standard Blu-ray last October. Arcane has released two limited edition Steelbooks, a 4K Blu-ray with Jinx Cover Art and 1080p Blu-ray with VI cover art. Amazon recently sold the Arcane 4K Blu-ray Limited Edition Book Book at $37.76 ($60) and the standard Blu-ray Limited Edition Books at $35.64 ($55). The non-steel Blu-ray version is only available for $26 ($45). Arcane finished the game on Netflix in his second and final season in November.
