Diablo Speedrun Suluths proves its 15-year world record is a fake after the game reversal and fails to replicate the run in 2.2 billion possible random dungeons

First reported by Ars Technica, a group of Diablo Speedrun enthusiasts proved decisively that it has been on a world record for three minutes since 2009. The effort requires reverse engineering Diablo’s map generation system, which has 2.2 billion possible legal output.

The offensive Speedrun uploaded the Speed Demos archive of Maciej “Groobo” Maselewski in March 2009 and featured the end time of 3:12, with an incredible “lucky” wizard running. Any percentage of running is broken down, meaning Grobo can use some of the allowed exploits and save the game and rework a portion for better time, adding these best breakdowns together for final counting. Diablo Mapgen team claims that Grupo’s manipulation of the game is far beyond the scope disclosed or allowed.
